Downtuned guitars are a gift from a disabled guitarist to the world, never forget it. If it wasn’t for Tony Iommi everyone in heavier Rock music would still be playing nerd ass properly tuned high pitched guitars.
This is what I meant when I said that when disabled existence is allowed to flourish it inevitably leads to invention.
Oh, and when I say they’re a disabled invention I don’t mean they’re something that happened to be invented by a disabled person independent of their disability. Downtuning was invented TO acommodate a disability/impairment.
Tony Iommi, guitarist of Black Sabbath, started downtuning his guitar because he got some of his fingertips sliced off in an accident at the factory he used to work in, and as a result it was very painful for him to play his guitar with the strings as tense as they needed to be for standard tuning. So, he loosened them up and started playing lower, and now the whole Rock scene seems to be in a competition to see who can tune lower than everyone else, because downtuned guitars sound badass as hell.
Same with a lot of other acommodations for disability that are widely of benefit for abled people besides the disabled people they were initially meant to help, including remote working and studying that’s literally saving lives during the pandemic.
Again, when disabled existence is allowed to flourish, it inevitably leads to invention and makes life better even for those who aren’t disabled.
